Speaking European: Healing with Erno Van Doesselaar, from Amsterdam to Murcia
Interview by Adam Woodward from Euro Weekly News  11 feb 2026

Erno Van Doesselaar, originally from Amsterdam has moved many times in his life, within the Netherlands. He began traveling abroad in 2015 as a yoga trainer, especially at yoga retreats , specialising in breath meditations, yoga Nidra and sound healing. But what drew him to Spain?

Erno: “At first I visited Andalucia twice, and I really enjoyed the campo and beautiful blue lakes. After that I visited Mallorca for a holiday, and that was great, but it never called me back. A year later I went to Ibiza, and directly after arriving there, something just clicked…

So for about 7 years I spent the majority of my time on Ibiza, until last year a big change in my personal life brought me again to the mainland. At that moment I could have chosen to permanently be in the Netherlands and let go of Spain, but a dear friend invited me to come to visit her place in Los Alcazares , and that brought me to the province of Murcia.”

What is it about Spain that captured you?

Erno: “One of the main reasons is how people in Spain tend to be more open-hearted and welcoming. I love the way you can just meet somebody that you never saw before and spontaneously have a very nice talk with them. For me the simplicity, the warm-heartedness and the way that life is celebrated here are very enjoyable.

Of course the weather invites you to live more outdoors, and that is great, and Spain has many beautiful nature sites, but the way people are just really suits me. For me that is very important.  What really captures my imagination in Spain are the amazing sunsets and sunrises. Nature has such a healing power; it always brings me to a deeper connection with myself, so that is a real gift.”

What do you miss from Home?
Erno: “Well, because I am from the Netherlands, I would say the professional way of working with water drainage, roadworks and tap water quality. But I can live without that. In exchange I receive so much more that I cannot experience at  home in the Netherlands, so that makes it absolutely worth it.”

What opened your eyes to Sound Healing?
Erno: “In 1997 I attended my first ever sound healing session, and that had such a deep impression on me that it never let me go. After that I attended more sound baths, and every time that I experienced one, I felt how deeply it touched my body, my mind and also my spirit. That combination of feeling how much my body and mind relaxed, how effortlessly you can receive a big reset and how even after two days I notice in my awareness that I have experienced a sound bath… That really pulled me into learning about sound healing and getting trained for it. For me that was also a very logical step because I could start to include it in the yoga trainings and retreats.”

Do you have any moments of helping others through your work that you are really proud of?
Erno: "For me it is not that I am proud of it. I actually feel very happy for the attending person that they could experience such deep relaxation and healing.  I am very grateful that I could offer them that space where they felt safe enough to naturally let it happen.  For one person this can be that they experienced for the first time in their life that their mind was totally silent… And for another person it can be that they felt the presence of a loved one who had passed away, and they felt safe with allowing those emotions to flow through them.

People can have so many different experiences, and they all happen naturally, without any goal or agenda. Everyone has their own individual unique sound journey experience, but we all come back to land and ground together.  It is magical and humbling at the same time, and I really love that.
I think it is very important that we can regularly give ourselves an experience where our mind gets to fully unwind, especially in this time.”
